About Fluidstack

Technology is the most important tool humans have found for improving the human condition, but it is not a default good. It is a lever for ideology.

Today the most powerful technology in history is being built: machines that solve problems better than humans can. The most important mission of our generation is to imbue AI with democratic values: error-correcting institutions, freedom of speech, individual liberties. AI trains and runs on massive compute clusters. Whichever ideology builds the infrastructure the fastest is the ideology that will endure. Democracy is delicate and won't survive this technology by default.

We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply!

How We Operate

  • Be a barrel. Full autonomy. Own things end to end, take on scope without being asked, no permission required to operate outside your core role.

  • Insane urgency. We drive everything forward as fast as possible.

  • Reason from first principles. Challenge every assumption. Zero analogy thinking, no egos, the best idea wins.

  • Love of the game. The frontier of AI is the most interesting problem of our time. We put in long hours at high intensity to push the frontier forward.

  • Build something that actually matters. If you're going to spend your time, spend it on something that matters to the world.

The Power Generation Team

Examples of key problems the team is working on

  • Build an islanded grid at gigawatt scale, from a blank sheet. Generation, storage and compute running with no utility behind them, where the machine you design is the only thing holding voltage. No playbook exists at this size, so the architecture you set becomes the reference.

  • Get power online in months, not years. Interconnection queues are measured in years and we do not have them. Generating our own power is how a site goes from signed lease to live compute inside six months, and the power system is the long pole in that plan.

  • Make one power block, then build it a thousand times. A repeatable block and cluster unit, validated once and stamped across the fleet, is the only route to the scale we are targeting. Every bespoke site is schedule we do not get back.

  • Design a grid whose largest load answers back. Compute is not passive demand here. Load behaviour, curtailment and shedding are design variables you negotiate and specify, a lever almost no power system engineer has ever been handed.

Role Scope

  • Design the medium-voltage network that carries power from each generation block to the data halls, inside the system design basis, as one standard that every site deploys and that grows by adding blocks rather than by redesign.

  • Design the cluster tie and MV substations that bundle blocks together, covering bus arrangement, transformer selection, tie and transfer schemes, and the switching sequences that let a new block energize next to live ones without an outage.

  • Size feeders, cable and transformers to the load and run the network studies behind them yourself, including load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, protection coordination, and EMT studies of switching, energization and islanded transients, as models that rerun for each site's layout and block count.

  • Set the protection philosophy and relay settings for an inverter-dominated network with limited fault current, and write the standard specifications for MV switchgear, transformers, cable and relaying that ship with every block.

  • Define the envelope the standard holds for, covering block count, feeder length, fault level and load step, set the triggers that send a site to a site-specific study, and fold what each energized site teaches back into the next revision.

What We're Looking For

The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.

  • You've personally built ETAP or SKM PowerTools models of an MV network and produced the load flow, short circuit and cable sizing results that went into issued-for-construction drawings.

  • You've built PSCAD models of switching, energization or islanded events, such as transformer inrush, ferroresonance or inverter-dominated fault response, and changed a design because of what they showed.

  • You've set the protection philosophy and relay settings for a system with limited or variable fault current, and you can walk through the coordination that proved it.

  • You've designed MV distribution down to the hardware, including metal-clad switchgear, transformers, cable and duct bank ampacity, and grounding, and defended those choices against NEC, NFPA 70E and IEEE requirements with engineers of record and AHJs.

  • You've designed an MV substation or bus tie scheme that let new capacity energize next to live load, and written the switching sequence the operators followed.

  • You've turned a one-off design into a standard that other engineers applied across multiple projects, and written its design basis clearly enough that they could use it without calling you.

  • Bonus: Transmission-side study and protection work (IBR interconnection studies, EMT studies, transmission relaying). Grid-forming and islanded systems (grid-forming inverters, microgrids, remote and mining power). Licensure to stamp electrical work (PE). Utility-scale PV and BESS collection systems (34.5 kV collector design). Data center electrical distribution (MV through UPS).

We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
